Using Perplexity in Instantly for Smarter Research
Research represents one of the most valuable yet time-consuming aspects of cold outreach. Understanding prospects before reaching out enables better messaging, more accurate qualification, and higher response rates. But manual research at scale quickly becomes impractical. Visiting websites, reading LinkedIn profiles, and gathering relevant intelligence about each prospect simply cannot scale.
The Perplexity integration within Instantly addresses this challenge directly. Perplexity excels at research, providing summarized intelligence that would take humans significant time to compile. Connecting this capability to your outreach workflows transforms research from a bottleneck into a scalable advantage.
Why Research Matters
The correlation between research quality and outreach results remains remarkably strong. When you know more about the prospects you contact, your messages can reference relevant details that demonstrate genuine understanding. Generic messages that could apply to anyone receive generic treatment in return.
Research also improves qualification. Not every lead in your list deserves the same level of attention. Some prospects have characteristics suggesting strong fit. Others have red flags indicating wasted effort. Intelligence gathering enables these distinctions before you invest time in outreach.
Even disqualification has value. Identifying leads that will not convert prevents spending resources on dead ends. The time saved redirects toward prospects with genuine potential.
Perplexity's Research Capabilities
Perplexity operates as an AI-powered research engine that synthesizes information from across the internet. Unlike simple search engines that return lists of links, Perplexity provides summarized answers with citations to sources.
For cold outreach, this means you can ask questions about companies and receive structured intelligence. What does this company do? What recent news have they generated? What technologies do they use? What challenges might they face? Perplexity compiles answers from multiple sources into digestible summaries.
The integration within Instantly enables running these research queries at scale across your lead lists. Rather than manually researching each prospect, you can enrich entire lists with Perplexity-generated intelligence.
Getting Started
Using Perplexity in Instantly begins with creating a lead list to enrich. This list should include basic company information like website domains that Perplexity can use as research anchors.
Within the lead finder or enrichment tools, Perplexity options allow specifying what information you want to gather. You can ask for company summaries, recent developments, technology stacks, or custom queries relevant to your specific needs.
The research runs across your list, with Perplexity gathering and summarizing information for each entry. Results populate into your lead data, available for use in segmentation, qualification, and personalization.
Use Cases for Research
Several applications demonstrate Perplexity's value in outreach workflows.
Company summaries provide quick context about what each prospect organization does. This information helps craft opening lines that demonstrate familiarity with their business.
Recent news and developments reveal timely hooks for outreach. A company that just announced a product launch, received funding, or achieved a milestone provides natural conversation starters.
Technology stack information enables targeted messaging about integrations, migrations, or complementary solutions. Knowing what tools a company uses informs how you position your offering.
Competitive intelligence identifies which prospects might be using alternatives to your solution, enabling displacement-focused messaging.
Custom queries address specific research needs. If your product solves a particular problem, you can ask Perplexity to identify evidence that each prospect experiences that problem.
Scaling Research Intelligently
The temptation with research capabilities is to gather everything possible about every prospect. This approach quickly becomes overwhelming. Too much information creates analysis paralysis and slows rather than accelerates outreach.
Better practice involves identifying the specific intelligence most valuable for your campaigns. What information actually improves your messaging or qualification? Focus research queries on those elements rather than attempting comprehensive profiles.
Start with simple use cases to build familiarity with the integration. As you learn what information proves most useful, you can expand research scope intelligently.
From Research to Results
Research creates value only when it translates into better outreach. Information sitting in your lead database accomplishes nothing until it influences how you communicate with prospects.
Build processes that connect research insights to messaging. Use gathered information in personalization variables. Let research findings inform which leads receive priority attention. Create segments based on research-revealed characteristics.
The goal is not research for its own sake but research that improves outcomes. Keep this connection clear as you develop your Perplexity workflows, ensuring the intelligence you gather actually enhances the campaigns you run.

One of the more exciting AI integrations that we have at Instantly is the Perplexity integration. Now, why I'm specifically excited about that specific integration is because Perplexity is really good at research. And as you may or may not know, a very important aspect or part of cold outreach is doing research. In the end, if you know more about your leads that you're looking to reach out to, then chances are you're able to write better messaging, qualify or disqualify good or bad leads, and overall get better results. And that is why Perplexity is just so phenomenal and such an exciting integration. In this mini practical or mini course, I will walk you through starting with Perplexity, getting started running your first searches, and one or two really basic use cases to get your creative juices flowing. Let's get started. What you'll want to do is you want to create a lead list inside of SuperSearch. In the moment that you found the email for these people, you'll land here on your list and you're able to see the enrich an AI button that you want to click. You'll click the AI tab right here and then use AI. As you're under there, you can then click into the account dropdown and you can select the instantly perplexed the account. Then you'll find two different models. I always go with the Sonar Pro model because I find it to be more accurate when it comes to research. And then here under advanced options, one quick thing that you want to do for any enrichment is to say run only if and then you find the work email tab or the work email option is not empty. And that way you're good to go and you're only spending credits on leads that actually have a work email. Now what I'm going to do for this one is I'm going to then scroll up, and this way you can write your prompts. And I'm going to go ahead and come up with a very simple prompt. We're going to find the blog page for these people, for these leads, and that we can we can use their blog to create more personalized messages, maybe qualify them to see what type of topics they post about or to see if they even published a blog recently, because maybe that's relevant to my outreach. And again, this is to get your creative juices flowing, because for your use case, it will likely be something else that you want to research. But the process is in the end exactly the same. What I'm going to say, and this is going to be a very straightforward prompt, but luckily, Perplexity is actually really good, almost doesn't hallucinate, and that way I can keep prompting really simple. So I'm going to say, I want you to visit, then the bracket, and then I'm going to scroll down to company website and find there we go. So just to walk you through the prompt quickly, I want you to visit company website and find their blog. I only need the blog URL, nothing else. Do not provide any other output. Do not provide any reasoning. If no blog is present or found, I'll put the word purple. And that word, I will show you in just a second why we need that. I always put it in there as a bit of a fallback that I will show you just in a second. So I'm going to click generate, and I'm going to enrich the first one hundred leads that we have in here. And as it starts to create that column, you can start to see blogs and links, etcetera, coming up, as well as the word purple every now and then. And let me show you why we need that word purple in there because in my next step, I'm going to click enrich an AI again, AI tab, use AI, make sure that we have perplexity selected again in the Sonar Pro model. Going to click advanced options again, run only if, then I'm going to select the new column I just created. And FYI, you can rename that column if you want to, for example, blog URL just to make it a bit easier for yourself. So if that new column is not empty to begin with, add condition, new column does not equal purple. There we go. Now the reason why I'm using that, I'm giving the AI a way out, a fallback. If I'm saying if you cannot find a blog URL, do nothing, at times it will still say something like I couldn't find the URL, or you're right, there isn't, or just leaving this. Like, it will output something, anything. And what that means is we cannot just rely on that, only run if that column is not empty. Right? We cannot rely on that. So instead, I wanna give it a way out. I'm using purple. You can use any random word that has your fancy. And that way, we can then run the next prompt knowing that we're only spending credits on rows that have an email to begin with and that actually have the output that we need to continue to the next step. Because my next step is going to be, I want you to visit, and then I'm going to select that new column, and that is the blog URL. There we go. Again, a really basic straightforward prompt. I want you to visit that blog and find me the latest entry from the blog. In your output, provide me the title of the blog and nothing else. Do not provide reasoning. Do not provide any other output except for the exact blog title. Going to scroll down, generate, enrich a hundred leads, and now what we can see is right here we have all these blogs, right here we have all the blog titles, and now we can use that to, for example, personalize our outreach to qualify them to see what type of things they're talking about or any of the next step that you have in mind. Then I'm going to add a third and final step. I'm going to click enrich in AI again, the same steps that I'm going to go through, select the instantly perplexity account, Sonar Pro, and then what I'm going to say is visit, and then I'm going to select the blog URL. Here we go. Reading this out loud. So visit the blog and give me the exact date the last blog post was published. Give it to me in this exact format. Do not provide any other output, etcetera, etcetera. Give me this date, and then, you know, the fifth of January or the third of January, for example. That is the exact format that I want. Because then I can say something like, I noticed that you published this or that blog. I also saw that last time your published date was this date. How about we can help you post more regularly using our SEO, our blogging service, for example? And again, this is one specific use case, one specific example that I'm going through. But for your use case, you'll likely have something else. But the point is you now have access to all of this research with the Perplexity integration. So I'm going to go here. And just to be sure, what I can do, I can say run only if, and then the new column is not empty, and we use the word purple there, as you may or may not remember, does not equal purple, and now we're good to go, and we can enrich a hundred leads. And there you have it. Now for all these people, what we found is we have their blog URL, blog title, the last day they published the blog, and we can use all of that for qualification or for personalization and relevance within our emails. There you have it. That is the power of perplexity. And when you combine it with Instantly, you have access to it right there within your lead database, and you can run all of this research and all of these different enrichments. It is a bit of a mantra of mine where I say your own creativity is the limit. Here is the only limiting factor. So I very much encourage you to try and get creative and run Perplexity for your own enrichments qualification and use the power of AI to get better results from Call Outreach.
